Volume 1, Issue 3 – December 2016

What’s new?

For More Perfect Union (FMPU) was formed earlier this year with the goal of uniting communities all over the United States under 5 core values:

  1. Separation of Faith & State, 2. Protection of Freedoms Granted in the U.S. Constitution, 3. Foundation as a Nation of Immigrants, 4. Safety of America in Connection with the World, and 5. Equity & Equality in Economic Opportunities.

In light of the recent election, we’re working on three new issue campaigns: Project Liberty, Project Health and Project Prosperity. Project Liberty is working make sure everyone has access to the American dream by finding a bipartisan solution to address immigration and refugees in America. Project Health works to address the concerns of millions of Americans regarding access to proper healthcare. Finally, Project Prosperity encompasses all of these by working together to make sure that everyone has equal access to succeed in the United States by ensuring equity and equality in economic opportunities to every American. We know that if we work together, we will have a stronger, more equitable America.

FMPU would like to announce the addition of James Herrmann to our team! James has joined our team following his experience working for the Hillary Clinton campaign in Ohio.  He’s also worked with several grassroots organizations and campaigns in the past.  He will now be working with FMPU as Outreach Director.

Events

For More Perfect Union is currently planning a discussion forum on Immigration policy in the United States.  Following the election of Donald Trump as president, many expect changes to the nation’s immigration system.   The Forum will be held on January 31st at the Frank E. Merriweather library, 1324 Jefferson Ave. in Buffalo, NY, 14208.  The event will begin at 6pm and will end around 7:30pm.

As always, For More Perfect Union organizers would be happy to meet with any group or organization that supports our core values and governing principles.  To arrange a meeting, please see our contact information below and send us an email to make arrangements.

Internship opportunities:

FMPU is looking for interns to assist with the following: social media, communications, community outreach, and fundraising.  If you or anyone you know are interested in any of these positions, please send us an email with your resume or letter of interest to jamesh@fmpu.org, and cc briann@fmpu.org.  We’re really looking forward to everyone’s submissions!

Other activities: We will begin a petition drive to build support for needed reforms to our immigration system.  FMPU is working right now to prepare the petition and get it ready for circulation.  We are looking for people who would be willing to help us circulate paper copies of this petition and share an online form of the petition.

We will be sharing more about this petition as it develops.  This petition drive will be an ongoing activity for us through early 2017 until our efforts lead to a resolution on the legislation we are supporting.
